Meet the Owner of Big West Roofing!
How long has Big West Roofing been in business?
Big West Roofing has been in business for approximately two years. The company formerly operated under a different name since 1970. We kept the same business model that focuses on a customer first approach to service and quality.
Why did you start a new business?
My uncle had been in roofing for over 60 years and decided to retire. He passed away shortly thereafter but before his death, encouraged me to start a new business. My uncle really focused on training and teaching his skills to younger generations. He became heavily involved in quality control of the industry and teaching roofers ways to correctly install materials before his passing. He died a few months ago at 87 and was still heavily involved in the business.
What got you into roofing?
I worked with my uncle through high school and college and got the roofing bug. I made service to my country my top priority but have always roofed whether it was for a house flip, remodel, or new construction.
What do you mean service to your country was a top priority?
I learned from my uncle and father the importance of service to country. I served in the US Army and had a full government career working as a special agent /criminal investigator. I ended up running nationwide investigations for the US Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection before retiring.
Any regrets with your career choices?
I have always been a roofer and a patriot. My careers have chosen me and I have always been grateful for the opportunities afforded to me.
What did you do in the military?
I was an 11B Infantrymen. I was assigned to a Long Range Surveillance Company and was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. I had the time of my life and love those I served with.
Did you see any combat?
I deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina for a year. We were tasked with gathering intelligence and locating mass grave sites. It was a specialized unit and we were good at what we did. I made lifelong friends I still stay in contact with through social media.
What are your business goals?
Every roofing owner wants a successful company. I want to teach the trade, be the best at my chosen profession, serve people, and build things to last. Luckily, roofing checks all of those boxes for me. I love driving by homes we have worked on. It gives me a deep sense of accomplishment.
Are you going to stay in Utah?
I met my wife here and am raising my family in Utah. They make it worthwhile. I love Utah. I love my neighbors and friends and people I have met. I feel a deep responsibility when I’m working on someone else’s home.
Are you going to give the business to your kids when you retire?
Who said I was going to retire? I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else. I love our crews, salespeople, and administrative team. We are truly a family.
What is roofing about for you?
It’s about service. I want to give our clients the best service I can and make lifelong relationships. I love getting 5-star reviews and seeing smiles on our customers faces. I also love the sense of accomplishment roofing gives.
What’s your favorite quote?
All in, all the time! When I’m in, I’m all in and give it everything I have.

Great service from Erick and his crew. It was just a small job, replacing a few shingles that had blown off in a storm. Erick came over to look and was able to fix it immediately. Great service, highly recommend.

It’s recommended to inspect your roof at least twice a year, typically in the spring and fall. Regular inspections can help catch minor issues before they turn into major problems. Additionally, after severe weather like hail or strong winds, it’s important to have a professional check for any potential damage.
Common signs that your roof needs repairs or replacement include missing, cracked, or curling shingles, leaks or water damage inside your home, granules in your gutters, or sagging areas on the roof. If your roof is over 20 years old, it’s also worth considering a professional assessment for replacement.
Most residential roof replacements take about one to three days, depending on the size of the roof and the type of materials used. Weather conditions and the complexity of your roof’s structure can also affect the timeline. At Big West Roofing, we prioritize efficiency while ensuring top-quality work.
At Big West Roofing, we offer a wide variety of roofing materials, including asphalt shingles, metal roofing, slate, and tile. We work with you to choose the best material based on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and the specific needs of your home or commercial property.

The lifespan of your roof depends on the materials used and the local climate. For example, asphalt shingles typically last 20 to 30 years, while metal roofs can last 40 to 70 years. Regular maintenance can help maximize the lifespan of your roof.
We offer comprehensive warranties on both the materials we use and our workmanship. Material warranties can range from 20 years to lifetime coverage, depending on the product, while our workmanship warranties provide additional peace of mind that your roof will be installed correctly.
